It really is that simple. The numbered retaining peg keeps the keys locked in place until an authorised user inserts their own colour-coded identity peg and turns to release them. Their peg stays locked in until the keys are returned — so you always know exactly who has what, and why.

How the KeyTidy Key Control System Works
Never spend any more time looking for keys or equipment.
Every user has their own identity peg
The colour denotes their reason for access (green = cleaner, blue = technician, etc.) and initials or an identity number can be engraved on the end (e.g. JLR or 411) if required.
Keys and items are sealed to a numbered retaining peg
Each key or item of equipment is sealed to a light blue or solid steel numbered 'retaining' peg, held in the matching numbered KeyTidy block — always stored in exactly its correct place.
Insert your peg to unlock
The authorised user inserts their own identity peg and turns to release the keys or item — but their peg stays locked in place until the keys or item are returned.
Always know where everything is
Keys and items are ALWAYS in their correct position, or it is instantly clear precisely who has them (by the initials on the peg in place) and why (by the colour of that peg).

Amazon Warehouses
Amazon warehouses attach KeyTidy to pallet trucks, saving an average of 8 minutes per user per shift. Pallet truck number 20 is always in position 20 awaiting an authorised user, and always returned to its correct position after use — not left as a health & safety issue in another part of the warehouse. As a result, only the correct number of pallet trucks are purchased because "spare" trucks are not required for those that go "missing".

What is a shadow board?
A shadow board is something you can create with KeyTidy T1s to keep tools, keys and other assets organised and accountable. Every item has its own marked, labelled position on a visual control board, so you can see in an instant whether it's in place or missing. It's a simple, proven way to keep equipment ready to use, with no software to log into and nothing to charge.

How to build one with the KeyTidy T1
1.List what you need to control
Write down every item you want accountable: power tools, hand tools, keys, radios, tablets, vehicles. Anything that goes missing or gets borrowed.
2.Map out a position for each
Decide where each item lives on the board. A dedicated, labelled spot for every asset is what makes the system work at a glance.
3.Mount a KeyTidy T1 at each spot
Each T1 holds one item with a tamper-evident seal. Mount one unit per position, as many as you need, in any arrangement.
4.Seal and label
Fit the numbered seals and label each position. From now on, a broken or empty position instantly shows what's missing or been accessed.
